Andy Whitehouse

I am a counsellor in private practice with a Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy from Temenos Ltd in Sheffield. I’m a registered member of the BACP – membership number 00842682.I also teach the Person-Centred Counselling degree at The Metanoia Institute.

I have worked in mental health since the mid 1980s and qualified as an RMN (psychiatric nurse) in 1991. Whilst my training has been illuminating in many ways, I feel that I have also learned so much from jobs delivering pizzas, managing a theatre, as a labourer in construction sites. Above and beyond that I have learned a lot just by the simple (and complicated) process of being alive.

I believe passionately in creating free opportunities for those that cannot afford to access open ended talking therapy because they cannot afford to pay for it. I have found the counselling process to be uniquely liberating, supportive and helpful as a client. I have been overjoyed to see my clients experiencing change, coming to terms with their past experience, developing a greater kindness towards themselves, valuing themselves more. My experience is that developing a healthier relationship with ourselves is a starting point for living more thoughtfully, more compassionately, with greater kindness.

It just doesn’t sit well with the whole philosophy of the person-centred approach for it to be only available as those who can afford to buy it. So, I am really happy to offer two spaces for open ended counselling with no limit on the number of sessions, at all times. At the moment all my work is online, via WhatsApp or Facetime, or on the phone.
