I have benefited hugely from counselling throughout my life, first as a student struggling with a complex bereavement and later as a single parent trying to cope with many personal crises including grief, redundancy and relationship break up. Sometimes, I have been able to access counselling only because it has been free at the point of use. Without it, my pain and suffering would have had a significantly more negative impact on my life – the opportunity to grow would have been denied.. I am committed to a wide variety of therapeutic services that are free at the point of use for everyone in need. However, I recognise our current system falls very short of that ideal. I will nonetheless continue to campaign for it and will make real my conviction by offering counselling free of charge to those in need who live in the city where I’m based.
